Learn to Live
Nothing is eternal; as we know, everything has an end. Time, however, ceaselessly goes forward without pause or regression. One day my time will end too. It is easy to feel regret for the actions not pursued, for letting go of many possibilities and choices, or for wishing things had turned out differently. It takes less effort and time to list the numerous hurdles of life than it does to think about the small joys and appreciation that exist within.
For some time, I endeavored to compile a list of ten compelling reasons to appreciate living in my country while deliberately excluding being with my loved ones. Because I’m considering and wishing significantly for the chance of relocating to a country with a higher standard of living, particularly with my family.
Not every dream swiftly turns into reality, and not every wish is granted to come true. That’s why I’m endeavoring to see the silver lining in every situation.
Waiting, regretting, and yearning for something means living pointlessly. If days are mostly filled with regrets and reflecting on mistakes from the past, eventually it leads to profound self-loathing and a deep plunge into echoes of sorrow. Now I know that to live means acknowledging the many unchangeable parts of my life as they stand and just giving my best effort each day. As a junior student of life, I believe my journey ahead will be long yet adventurous, filled with diverse shades of color and rich experiences.
In ‘The Midnight Library,’ the book I recently read during my time off from the job, I came across a poignant quote that I noted down.
“A person was like a city. You couldn’t let a few less desirable people put you off the whole thing. There may be bits you don’t like, a few dodgy side streets and suburbs, but the good stuff makes it worthwhile.”
It reminded me that it’s important not to let the less desirable aspects overshadow the beauty and values of everything. Each person is a tapestry of experiences, both good and bad. Both good and bad experiences are awaiting me, and the uncertainty of the future intrigues me. I’ll embrace whatever comes my way, ready to navigate through both the challenges and joys that lie ahead.
